Camp Soar is...

  • Rising 9th and 10th graders
  • June 7th, 8th, and 9th
  • 8 am - 12 pm
  • $50. per camper
  • Located at Central Nine Career Center

Campers will...

Aviation

Campers will learn about many facets of the Aviation Industry while designing and building their own balsa wood airplane. Students in this track will take a field trip to the Vincennes University Aviation Technology Center and have a chance to win a “discovery flight” from Vincennes University. 

  • Take home item: Balsa wood airplane.

The aviation industry revolves around designing and developing various aircraft, handling production and operations, and flying or repairing aircraft.

Students can qualify for an excused absence by:  

– Participating in a job shadow experience 
– attending a college visit 
– attending a funeral 
– attending documented medical appointments 
– or other circumstances approved by admin 

  • If you’re sick, stay home.  Come back when you feel better.
  • If you decide to test, and you test positive
    • 5 days out from onset of symptoms
    • If feeling better, you may return on day 6 and remain masked for 5 days
  • We will not be contact tracing.

Central Nine is hosting summer camps this June for students who will be in 7th or 8th grade during the fall 2019 school year!

Students can choose to participate in two different camp experiences. Contact cvonderwell@central9.k12.in.us for questions.

Hours: 8am – 11:30am each day

The early years

Early 1970

Nine School Corporations join forces to establish the first area vocational center for Johnson and Marion County. 

 

April 28th, 1970

A temporary Governing Board is established and Richard Thomas is elected as the first (temporary) president. 

The board makes a proposal for a Continuous Feasibility Study for an area vocational school. 

 

September 21, 1970

Board members review (and choose a site for campus). 

    

 

October 8th, 1970

Board members vote to name the center; Central Nine Vocational Technical School. 

Other names that were up for consideration: “John-Mar” (or “Johnson-Marion”), “Central Nine”, “Leatherwood”, and “whetzel Trace”. 

 

April 15th, 1971

Architect, Ray Thompson, from James Associates presents the final site and building plans for Central Nine. 

  

 

May 13th, 1971

James E. Hixson is made the first director of Central Nine.
