I came late to teaching. My mother was an English teacher. Her sister was an English teacher. I swore up and down that I was never going to be an English teacher. And yet…here we are. I became a licensed English teacher in 2002, with degrees from Purdue (BA), Ball State (English licensure/MS Ed.) and Indiana University (Special Education licensure). Since then, have been teaching English courses and Writing Workshops at the high school and college level. What I am really enjoying about Central Nine is the variety.
The majority of my time is spent working with small groups in remediation for the Accuplacer dual college credit testing, small group tutoring and working with classes on journaling, class projects, writing essays and CTE English standards in general. I have also developed and implement a Resume Writing Workshop and an Interviewing Workshop, frequently hand-in-hand with the Career Pathways department. I get to work with teachers and students in all of the career pathways, adding to my vocabulary and knowledge base every day. I am energized by the satisfaction of fleshing out an idea, drafting a lesson plan, working with the class on a project and seeing the end result…but on a much larger and diverse scale than ever before. I. Love. My. Job!
